I am preparing to build a workbench and would like a properly thick top of hardwood. but i am hoping to save some money by cutting my hardwood into 1-1/2-in. strips, then gluing them together on-edge to a base of two 3/4-in. sheets of plywood, ending up with a 3-in.-thick top.. You can easily make this bench in a weekend and that materials cost roughly $140...that's counting the $40 sheet of plywood too. i hope you enjoy the video. thanks for watching and have a good one.. One bench has a piece of 1/2" plywood on top, the other has 3/4" furniture grade plywood. both are very sturdy. if you use plywood for the top cover, get a piece of bc at least, so you have a sanded surface..
So, some sort of plywood becomes the material of choice for the bench top, regardless of whether the legs are of wood or of metal. even then, there are several options to consider: • mdf – mdf is a great material, very ridgid and strong.. A workbench is a table used by woodworkers to hold workpieces while they are worked by other tools. there are many styles of woodworking benches, each reflecting the type of work to be done or the craftsman's way of working. most benches have two features in common: they are heavy and rigid enough to keep still while the wood is being worked, and there is some method for holding the work in. Plywood kitchen benchtops as my knowledge of kitchen construction is limited (ok, non existent), i told her i'd ask here. she like the look of thick plywood where the plys are visible at the edge..
